“Roots, Routes, and Relocations: What Will Your Immigrant History be?”
About: As a tool of English language literacy for new immigrants and information for long term residents, Esteban Izquierdo creates an adventure book. Esteban's work is a Featured Project of the Immigrant Vancouver Ethnographic Field School (IVEFS). Esteban completed this book as his final project and placement “in the field” of Little Mountain Neighbourhood House’s Culture and Communication Exchange Program.
Abstract: The ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ style of literature allows the reader to assume the role as the protagonist and active agent of his or her own adventure much in the same way as my interaction with the immigrant community at Little Mountain Neighbourhood House who showed that even whilst undergoing several trials during stages of their immigration, they were still active in their choices and their thought processes. Acting as both an ESL tool for newcomers and an informative piece of interactive literature for those hoping to have a better understanding of their fellow neighbours, this project brings together the multi-dimensional aspect of the immigration process.Click to see Esteban's book: http://ivefs.arts.ubc.ca/fileadmin/user_upload/field_school/Esteban_Izquierdo/Esteban_Izquierdo_project.pdf
