Little Mountain Neighbourhood Houser Society Board of Directors

Are you passionate about community? Do you seek to make a difference in the life of Vancouver? Little Mountain Neighbourhood House Society is seeking candidates for its board of directors. LMNHS is a neighbourhood-based organization temporarily located at Kingsway and Inverness in Vancouver. With 20+ program locations, we provide a wide array of programs to thousands of people in all their diversity. Our diverse 12 member board guides our established award-winning organization and provides leadership support to our 100+ FT and PT staff members. Meetings are held 10 times a year (currently the last Monday evening of the month). Board work in our organization provides a great opportunity for personal growth and skills development, and for making a meaningful contribution to your community. We currently are looking to fill one vacancy on the board for a two-year term.

Board Responsibilities:

  • Committed to the work of LMNHS;
  • Knowledgeable and skilled (or willing to learn) in areas of board governance, non-profits, finance, human resources, information technology, advocacy, or fund development;
  • Attendance at monthly board meetings;
  • Committee work with at least one standing or ad hoc committee;
  • Support of special events; and
  • Promote LMNH in the community.

 

Skills the Board is currently seeking (experience in any one of the below an asset):

  • Legal;
  • Planning/Strategic Planning;
  • Government Relations;
  • Communications; and
  • Fundraising.

 

General Skills:

  • Ability to work as part of a team;
  • Knowledge or interest in learning about LMNHS and the neighbourhood house movement.

Job Summary

ECE Substitutes assist staff to provide support and direct care to children in our various childcare programs working with children ages 3 to 5 years old.

ECE Substitutes Key Duties
  • Works with staff, to assist children with their needs promoting their social, physical, intellectual, creative, and emotional growth.
  • Ensure that all safety standards are implemented and maintained.
  • Establish and maintain positive daily communication with parents, children, and staff.
  • Program plans, prepares and carries out developmentally appropriate programs and activities.
  • Conducts activities with children on an individual and group basis to promote the development of all the children’s needs.
  • Attends to children’s physical needs.
  • Maintains confidentiality, keeps records, and reports problems or concerns to senior staff.
  • To follow LMNHS and CDC’s policy, procedures, philosophy and mission statement.
  • Keeps program facilities and equipment safe and clean, reporting any repairs and concerns to senior staff.
  • A team player, someone punctual, organized, takes initiative, and is fun loving
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Early Childhood Education Certificate required
  • Special Needs Certificate an asset
  • First Aid Certificate required
  • Experience working with children in a child care setting
  • Additional language/s, and experience in working in a multicultural environment is an asset.

 
Remuneration:  Starting at $16.37 per hour
Shifts: vary between 7:30 am – 5:00 pm, this positions is on-call as needed

  • Minimum age 19 years Required
  • School Age Certificate or Work experience with school age an asset
  • High Five Certificate an asset
  • First Aid Certificate Required
  • Class 4 drivers license an asset
  • Completion of a clear Criminal Record Check by the Criminal Records Review Act. Required
  • Character/Work references.
  • Experience working with children in a child care setting
  • Additional language/s, and experience in working in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Creative Initiative and a sense of humor.

Remuneration: $16.39 per hour

Hours: Mondays – Friday 7:00 am – 9:30 am, and 2:00 pm-6 pm
