Children & Youth

Children and Youth programming at LMNHS spans literacy development, leadership development and social support for school aged children and youth living in the Little Mountain/Riley Park communities. All children and youth programs take place in the community: at local schools, community centres and LMNH.

These programs are funded by the United Way of the Lower Mainland and the BC Gaming Branch.



The Crew Drop-In

Drop-in program for children and youth living in Little Mountain/Riley Park. Activities include games, arts and crafts, cooking, and outings.

Who it's for: Children and youth, ages 6-18

When: Wednesdays, Thursday, Friday 5:15 - 7:15pm Sept 22nd - Dec 17th, 2010

Location: Riley Park Community Centre (East 30th Ave & between Quebec and Ontario St.)

Cost: Free for current or former BC Housing residents, $2 drop-in or $10/month  for others.

Registration: Go to the front desk of Riley Park Community Centre at the beginning of the program on any program day.

Elementary Literacy Programs - Brock, Livingstone and Wolfe

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House ::

Explore the world of reading through fun, games, science experiments, and projects! This after-school activity-based literacy programs are for children in grades 1-3 and 4-7. Participants play games, practice reading and writing, explore new ideas, make new friends. Older students can work on homework and get help, if needed. Snack is provided.

Who it's for: Brock, Livingstone and Wolfe Elementary School students, grades 1-7

When: September - December 2010

Fab Girls Group

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House ::

Weekly program for girls in grades 5, 6, 7 to learn about themselves, their community and the world. Activities include community-building, learning about fundraising and social justice, career day, neighbourhood outings and lots of FUN!

Who it's for: Girls in grades 5, 6 and 7

When: Tuesdays 3:30-5:30pm, starting date TBA

Where: Little Mountain Neighbourhood House - West room

Cost: $5 - $15, sliding scale

Tupper Homework Club

After-school drop-in program where Tupper High School students can work on homework, have a snack, play games, and meet new people. There are volunteer tutors available to help students with homework. These tutors have a wide range of skills, including mathematics, social studies, science, English and other subjects.

Who it's for: Tupper High School students

When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 3:30pm-6:30pm, Sept 2010-June 2011

Where: Tupper High School, Homework Club Room

Cost: Free

Registration: Just show up!

Youth Council

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House ::

Weekly meetings for neighbourhood youth to plan events, help the community, and gain leadership skills.

Who it's for: Youth living in Little Mountain/Riley Park. Grades 8-12

When: Thursdays 5:30 - 7:30pm, Sept 23rd, 2010 - June 2011

Location: Little Mountain Neighbourhood House - West Room

Cost: Free

Registration: Come to a session and talk with our Youth Council Leader, Kay.

Youth Leadership 1

Stay tuned for info on Leadership 1 - offered as a parnership betweeen LMNHS and the Association of Neighbourhood Houses.

Who it's for: Youth in grade 10-11 who want to gain skills and knowledge to become community leaders.

Participants often go on to work in summer day camps around the city.

When: Jan - May 2011
