Children & Youth

Children and Youth programming at LMNHS spans literacy development, leadership development and social support for school aged children and youth living in the Little Mountain/Riley Park communities. All children and youth programs take place in the community: at local schools, community centres and LMNH.

These programs are funded by the United Way of the Lower Mainland and the BC Gaming Branch.

Spring Break Adventure Camp

Come celebrate Spring Break with Little Mountain! Every day is an adventure!  Learn new games, crafts, meet new friends and our great staff and volunteers. Stay active and learn through play with Camp. Daily activities can be given closer to the date but activities include: crafts, cooking, swimming, field trips, library time, sharing, and use of the Play it Fair toolkit.

 

Who: Children ages 6-12 years old

When: During Spring Break - March 12th- March 16th 2012 and March 19th - March 23rd 2012 9:00AM - 4:00PM DAIlLY

Where: The Adventure Camp will take place at Little Mountain but will have plenty of field trips

Cost: $100 per week - This includes admission fees, snacks and any supplies needed

Registration: Come by Little Mountain Neighbourhood House or call Jasica at 604-879-7104 ext. 310. Spaces are limited, please register early.

 

The Crew Drop-In

Drop-in program for children and youth living in Little Mountain/Riley Park. Activities include games, arts and crafts, cooking, and outings.

Who it's for: Children and youth, ages 6-18
When:
Wednesdays and Fridays 5:00 - 8:00pm
Location: 
Wednesdays- Hillcrest Community Center (4575 Clancy Loranger Way (Ontario Street & 30th Avenue)

               Fridays - Little Mountain Neighbourhood House (3981 Main Street)

Elementary Literacy Programs - Brock, Livingstone and Wolfe

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House ::

Explore the world of reading through fun, games, science experiments, and projects! This after-school activity-based literacy programs are for children in grades 1-3 and 4-7. Participants play games, practice reading and writing, explore new ideas, make new friends. Older students can work on homework and get help, if needed. Snack is provided.

Who it's for: Brock, Livingstone and Wolfe Elementary School students, grades 1-7

Fab Girls Group

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House ::

Weekly program for girls in grades 5, 6, 7 to learn about themselves, their community and the world. Activities include community-building, learning about fundraising and social justice, career day, neighbourhood outings and lots of FUN!

Who it's for: Girls in grades 5, 6 and 7

Wednesdays 3:30-5;30 (west room)
Program will start on February 1st 2012 and run for 12 weeks! -

Tupper Homework Club

After-school drop-in program where Tupper High School students can work on homework, have a snack, play games, and meet new people. There are volunteer tutors available to help students with homework. These tutors have a wide range of skills, including mathematics, social studies, science, English and other subjects.

Youth Council

Little Mountain Neighbourhood House ::

Weekly meetings for neighbourhood youth to plan events, help the community, and gain leadership skills.

Who it's for: Youth living in Little Mountain/Riley Park. Grades 8-12

Youth Leadership 1

Leadership 1 is offered as a parnership betweeen LMNHS and the Association of Neighbourhood Houses. Participation in leadership opens a wide variety of opportunities for the youth who participate. Youth receive job training and potential employment as a Children's Activity Leader, take part in a fun environment where they gain practical skills and acquire volunteer hours for graduation or post secondary applications, and obtain references for their resumes.

Who it's for: Youth in grade 10-11 who want to gain skills and knowledge to become community leaders.
Participants often go on to work in summer day camps around the city.
When:
Weekly sessions Thursdays, January 19th - April 2012 5:45-7:45pm
Includes 3 weekend camp trips and one Saturday workshop (TBA

Come for an information session and registration night Thursdays January 19th 2012 at 5:30
Cost:
$35 initial fee plus $65 for each weekend trip, $20 for the Saturday workshop (subsidies available upon request)
